Course Team Leader - Plumbing - Harrow College
My initial start at Harrow College was as an Assessor working via an employment agency. After a few months of agency work and a successful interview, I moved into full time employment with the College, where I could use my previous industry experience to develop the courses I teach on.
I initially started as a Plumbing Level 2 course lead, but I have now progressed into the Plumbing Course Team Leader position. I teach on Level 1- 3 City and Guilds courses, with students aged between 16-50.
I am able to use my industry contacts to arrange manufacturer talks for the students, and to help arrange work and apprenticeship opportunities. During the Covid lockdown, I was delivering online sessions, which brought its own challenges of delivering a practical class online.
Working at Harrow College has given me the opportunity to complete my teaching degree, along with further CPD to develop my curriculum knowledge. I enjoy working as part of a strong Construction team, with support from my managers, and being able to help and develop students to work in the construction industry on a daily basis.
I am able to pass on my skills and 20 years’ experience, that I learnt as an apprentice to the next generation of plumbers, to fill essential skills gaps in the country.
