Lecturer - Art - Harrow College
When I started at Harrow College I had predominantly been working around existing Schemes of Work and plans; however coming into the College I have been able to design and create my own Schemes of Work for the Art department and freshen up the older pre-existing ones. This has allowed me to implement more exciting and current issues into students' projects, to get them to push their creative ideas and explore the wider context of society through artwork.
As a creative person this has allowed me a great level of independence to help me expand not only my own creative practice, but that of my learners. Being such a well-facilitated department, the possibilities are endless, and I have had ample opportunity to expand my skills in a number of areas such as ceramics and pottery throwing (thanks for our state-of-the-art ceramics studio and super Technician!) as well as dark room practices. I have been able to work on a more independent level, leading courses and redesigning the content taught to raise standards and attendance in the art department.
With the help of a supportive management team, I have been able to grow my professional skills and make a lot of positive changes here at Harrow College, leading me to achieve the Teacher of the Year - Impact on Learning award in the 2022 Staff awards ceremony. I look forward to seeing how my career progresses as part of HRUC.
