Lecturer - ESOL - Harrow College
In the 20 years that I have worked at Harrow College, I have had the opportunity to progress in my career and have also been able to make positive contributions towards the development of the curriculum and implement strategies to support student development and progression to higher study and employment.
My specialism is in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Our students come from all over the world and at Harrow College we provide opportunities for these learners, by helping them to develop their English language skills to be able to participate actively in British society. In ESOL we also support refugees and new arrivals, to develop appropriate progression pathways, including language and employability skills, and identify the qualifications that would best support this. We develop and implement new approaches and we transform people’s experiences of learning and employment. What we do benefits individuals, families, communities and the wider economy. In ESOL we literally change lives and that is the most rewarding part of my job.
We all work together at the college in a supportive environment which provides opportunities for students and staff to reach their full potential.
